Winter is Really Here!

Today is December 21st, the official start of winter! After the snow storm last Sunday, the temperatures dropped like the stock market and show no real sign of turning around in the near future. OK by me as it will keep things white and winter like which in my opinion is how it should be. Another cool thing about the 21st of December is that we have made the turn to longer days
Tom and Tracy Clow invited Kriston and I out to dinner on Saturday night. We had great food at Monte's, downtown Fargo followed by some adult beverages next door at Dempsey's. Turned out to be an excellent evening. Good food, good friends, good conversations, good time of year - with all of those "goods" you are bound to have fun.
Al Kraft, Tom Clow and me posing at Dempsey's.
The view out the window of the F150 heading east to Maplelag with Matt. Wind pounding from the North made for a tricky drive - one of those drives when you need to keep you hands loose on the steering wheel so that you don't get white knuckles. That's what I'm talking about! The Maplelag sign and lots of snow. This is the first set of groomed tracks that you see after turning onto Maplelag Drive - Sukkerbusk Trail. We always slow down to check out the conditions, helps us decide what wax to use and generally just being very happy that we are about ready to click into our skis. Jay Richard's is always on top of the snow with his state of the art grooming equipment and knowledge of what works best for the best conditions - thanks Jay.
Matt getting ready to go. Matt had back to back swim meets this weekend and was not all that full of energy but still enjoyed the first time out this season. Ben had plans in Fargo or he would have been along too. Kriston was being the designated Mom.
It was cold today! Never made it above zero, but the wind was down in the trees making for some excellent skiing. Jake Richard's and I frosted up quit nicely after finishing off Lucky's Loype. I skied just under 15K and will be paying for it tomorrow in having sore muscles. The first time out every season is required to get the kinks out. The first couple of K were tough, but like riding a bike, you never really forget and the skills come back naturally. Cross country skiing is on the top of my list for winter activities, in fact it is on the top of my list period. It is December 21st, we have plenty of snow and can look forward to a long ski season!
