What a difference a week makes with the weather. Last weekend it was really hot and windy, this weekend it was cool and quite - a great change in my opinion. Matt was gone most of the weekend but was around this morning and said "Dad, it would be a good deal to ride our mountain bikes today". He did not have to ask me twice. I bagged the other plans for the day and we were on the road in 15 minutes.
Maplelag - Jay and Jonell heading out to ride their tandem. Jon Richard's was on tap to ride with Jay on the tandem at Cheq. this year but is to young so Mom Jonell is the alternate and will be in the co-pilots seat. Jay won the award of the day for looking the coolest. Jonell is styling in the Maplelag kit that matches the tandem, Jay is sporting the lime green socks and red shorts - nice.
Matt and Lars riding up Suicide. Lars will be in the area for the next week in anticipation for the road trip to the Cheq. Fat Tire Festival in Hayward, WI. Since the Wenzel's did not get a golden ticket to the event this year it was a good thing to ride with Lars today as he will be heading back to CO next week. Our plan was to ride the Maplelag single track with some gravel road mixed in - conditions were perfect!
Lars and Matt on a sweet roller road North of Maplelag. Dead end road - 10 minutes out and 10 minutes back, great training.
Jay is always thinking out of the box and is developing a very cool loop out by the Twin Lakes part of Maplelag. Lars introduced us to the section that is complete in which we were very impressed. As with the other singletrack at Maplelag, the flow is right on. Matt and I are looking forward to assisting in future trail construction. Ben and a half dozen other volunteers will be in tow.
