Finally a nice summer weekend. Weather was scheduled to be good and it actually was!
By comparison to years past I have been staying relatively close to home for the last couple of months. Both Matt and Ben have been busy with school stuff and I am just tired of running all over the country chasing down races and not getting anything done at home.
We have had numerous projects taking place and am happy to report that they are actually getting completed.
Saturday morning we took some time to roll over to Buffalo River State Park for the first annual Trail Run. Matt, Ben and I ran the 5k along the trails of the park. Excellent event! Well organized and overall good time.
I am kind of hiding it, but I was wearing a sleeveless shirt and catching all kinds of crap from Matt, Ben and Rick Laliberte. I am sporting major tan lines and generally was looking like a complete looser.
Matt eyed up the competition really close, got a pole position and took off like a rocket. Ben and I started slow and picked up speed in the first mile. Over 100 runners in the 5k and Matt ended up 2nd overall behind some college cross country guy. I ended up 4th and Ben was in the top 20. The Wenzel's represented rather well. Lot's of good people. It was fun to participate.
From the park we headed East to the annual Breakfast on the Farm in Rollag, MN. We had never been to this deal and did not know what to expect.
As we were standing in line waiting for our breakfast, this crew serenaded us the old fashion way. Classic.
John Peterson on the left joined us. Good eats, great location out at the Wester Minnesota Steam Threshers facility in Rollag and beautiful weather.
Saturday afternoon was the start of phase 2 of the fence project. All of the posts were planted from the week before so we were able to see progress right away.
Saturday evening we went to the Redhawks and watched them beat the snot out of Lincoln, Nebraska. It was John Peterson's BD so he joined us and we had a good time making fun of people and eating most anything that came our way.
Sunday fence progress. See Kriston in the background making sure that we were getting it done correctly.
Fence phase 2 complete. Now Kriston has her privacy and Piper the dog will no longer be able to wander all over the neighborhood.
We pimped out the latch puller with bike parts. We used chain ring nuts for the cable sleeve pressed into the wood, a cable for the pull, a skeewer end for the knob and a cable end for the finishing touches. Works perfect.
Ben knew Grandpa Wenzel had a sweet old Schwinn World Tourist in his shed and sent Grandpa an email to ask if he could "ride" it this summer. Grandpa agreed and Ben has been riding the tires off of it ever since. Matt is still riding the mint condition Schwinn Super Sport that Steve Blazek gave us 2 years ago. Now we have two vintage Schwinns in our fleet and are riding them every day.
Hard to beat a weekend like we just had. Of course I would have loved to road trip down to Mankato for race #2 of the MN MTB series but that would have entailed over 10 hours in the car. Time is important and 10 hours is too much to sacrifice.........
Cheers!
